REVIEW: Forever Mine by Elizabeth Reyes

Title: Forever Mine
Author: Elizabeth Reyes
Date Published: 9/6/10

Synopsis:
Mature YA-romance

Seventeen-year old Sarah’s life is turned upside down when her single mom is sent to jail. She’s forced to move, leaving behind everything she’s ever known, including her best friend Sydney. Lost and bitter in a new school, her one goal is to save money and move back home. Then she meets Angel Moreno.

Enigmatic but gorgeous, Angel is almost too good to be true. Except for one thing, his archaic belief that guys and girls can never be “just friends”. The problem? Sarah’s best friend Sydney is not a girl.

With their unexpected romance intensifying to places neither ever experienced, how long can Sarah keep Angel in the dark about the guy waiting for her back home?

My Rating:

My Review:

Sarah is determined to just get through the months leading up to her 18th birthday when she can finally make her own decisions. She just wants to go back to her old life and be with her best friend Sydney. So what does she do when she meets the one guy who makes her want to change her plans?

Angel is used to having casual relationships with girls but everything about Sarah has him wanting to spend every moment with her and bringing out every possessive bone in his body.

With a strong supporting cast, this is a sweet journey for Sarah and Angel. Secrets and Half-Truths cause some undeniable rifts for their budding romance.

My one wish for this series, is that so much of the other characters relationships were not given away ahead of time, knowing that they were going to be featured in future books in the series. I felt like I didn't want to know as much of their past up front.

BLOG TOUR: Christina Tetreault

Today's Blog Tour is Presented by Reading Addiction Blog Tours!

Photobucket

Later we will have a Review/Excerpt/Giveaway, but first, let's meet the Author!

I wrote my first story with characters similar to those in the Sweet Valley Twins books at the age of 10
on my grandmother's manual typewriter. As I got older my stories and characters became more mature.
During my freshman year at UMass Dartmouth, I read my first romance novel and fell in love with the
genre. I have been writing romance ever since.

Today I live with my husband, three beautiful daughters and two dogs in Massachusetts. Whenever I
have a free moment you'll find me either reading a romance novel or working on my most current story.

Title: The Teacher's Billionaire
Author: Christina Tetreault
Date Published: 3/2012

Synopsis:
Callie Taylor's life is turned upside down when she learns the truth about her birth following the death of her mother. Not only is her father alive, but he's none other than presidential candidate Senator Warren Sherbrooke.

Billionaire and confirmed bachelor, Dylan Talbot, is devoted to his family. When his stepfather Warren Sherbrooke receives a letter from a past love telling him they have a daughter together, Dylan is instantly suspicious. In order to keep the media vultures away and protect Warren's political aspirations, Dylan convinces Warren to let him handle the situation.

As Callie and Dylan spend time together, they can't resist the feelings that blossom between them. However, when Callie learns the real reason he has been spending time with her their fledgling romance is put in jeopardy and only complete honesty can save it.

My Rating:

My Review:
Callie is shocked to learn about the secret her mother kept from her all of her life. She feels she is way old to embrace a father who was never in her life. Yes, he may have money, but she is quite happy with her quaint life.

Dylan knows how important it is to shelter his stepfather from unfavorable media attention. He is all to aware of the lengths some people will go to exploit him and his family, unlike his stepfather, he doubts Callies intentions and decides to look into the situation himself.

The sparks between Callie and Dylan are undeniable. Neither of them want to embrace the attraction between them at first, but eventually their romance begins to grow into something they never suspected. Doubt, lies, and expectations all play a major role in the outcome of their fledgling relationship.

A very sweet and quick Contemporary Romance.

EXCERPT

Slowly she dropped her arm back down and turned around expecting Dylan to step back.  He didn't move.  Rather he reached out to brush a stray piece of hair off her face.
As if on autopilot Callie closed her eyes as his fingers skimmed down her check and neck to her shoulder.  With the weight of his hand resting on her shoulder, she waited not sure what to expect.  And then she felt just the slightest bit of pressure as his lips settled over hers.  Everything seemed to stop.  The only things she was aware of were his callused hand on her shoulder and his lips on hers.  The kiss was gentle.  Tender.
This shouldn't be happening.  Not with this man.
Even as her brain protested, Callie's body responded.  She wanted to feel his hard-muscled body pressed up against hers.  Even though she knew she should break contact, she took a step closer and rested her hands on his wide shoulders.

Dylan was still staring out the window twenty minutes later when he heard Callie enter the room.  Turning to watch her, an unfamiliar feeling of contentment settled over him.  Having her here in his apartment just felt natural.  Reaching for her hand he tugged her close.  “Have a nice nap?”
Callie nodded.  “You should have woken me,” she replied just before yawning.
“Obviously you needed the rest.”  He pointed out laughing.  “Besides I plan on keeping you up tonight so I figured letting you sleep now was in my best interest.”
She blushed at his comment, and he couldn't resist the urge to kiss her. Dylan forced himself to pull away before they ended up in his bedroom again.
Damn.  He'd only intended a quick kiss.  Yet once again he got carried away.  It happened so easily with her.  It wasn't something he was used to.  He always remained in control, no matter who he was with.  Yet with Callie all his control went not only out the window but down the street to the next block, and Dylan kept forcing himself to not think about why.

REVIEW: Smokeless Fire by Samantha Young

Title: Smokeless Fire
Author: Samantha Young
Date Published:10/21/11

Synopsis:
For the last two years Ari’s life has been anything but normal and on her 18th birthday, when her friends surprise her with a gimmick genie claiming to grant wishes, Ari discovers the truth. The tragic and strange occurrences surrounding her 16th birthday were not coincidental and her life is never going to be the same again.

Ari’s real parents are not normal. They are not loving. They are not human.

They are myth.

They are Smokeless Fire.

My Rating:

My Review:

Samantha Young made a fan of me with her Tale of Lunarmorte series.

As a teenage girl who has practically been raising herself due to her father's noticeable absence from her life, Ari is independent and strong enough to stand on her own. She has known Charlie her entire life and after the death of his brother, he is seriously different. In a deep depression and acting out in every way possible, Ari simply wants to fix him. Unfortunately, life has other plans for her.

Add on top of that a revelation that her father is not her actual father, and her real father wants to use her for his own sinister plans. Ari's world is turned upside down. There are new people claiming to want to protect her from her father's evil, but can she trust her so-called uncle and Jai, who has claimed the role of her protector.

Ari is so stuck in the past and what Charlie was, that she does not give anyone else the time of day. I just hate watching him be treated the way she is. It's heartbreaking, especially knowing what they could be. Then there is Jai, who would honestly be perfect for her if it weren't for her hearts addiction to Charlie.

This is a promising start to a new series, I will definitely be reading the rest!

My Favorite Tour so far was:

Heather Topham Wood's First Visions

Synopsis:
Two years ago, 21-year-old Kate Edwards became deathly ill and slipped into a coma. While unconscious, she crept into the mind of a missing boy and awoke with the knowledge of his location. Friends and family were skeptical and wary of her new ability to see into the minds of others. Their fears prompted Kate to keep her psychic powers a secret. Feeling alienated, she dropped out of college and spent most of her days holed up at her mother’s home.

Now another child has been abducted. Police detective Jared Corbett seeks out Kate for her help in solving the case. Reluctantly, Kate agrees and they must work together to bring 8-year-old Cori Preston home to her family. Although attracted to one another, Jared has a girlfriend with ties to the abduction case and Kate is sarcastic and guarded since her coma. With visions she can’t control and an uncontrollable attraction to the detective, she wonders if she can leave the past behind and finally stop hiding from the world. Otherwise, Cori may be lost forever.

I really love the upper YA genre. This book just felt very real to me and everything from the relationships to the visions themselves were so well written.

My Most Anticipate Tour is:

J.K. Hogan's Fire on the Island.

Synopsis:
“She who wields the mark is the barrier between man and monster.
She is the daughter of gods, the mother of man, protector of all.
Vigilati Usque Ad Mortem”

All Isla Macallen wanted was a simple existence on her little Scottish island, free from her
mother's insanity and the prying eyes of neighbors. What she got was embroiled in a war for the
souls of mankind. A war of good versus evil, of witches versus demons, and Isla learns that she
alone can end it.

Dr. Jeremiah Rousseau was a self-proclaimed nomad, traveling the world researching
paranormal phenomena. He doesn't expect his research to lead him to Scotland, and to the
woman who will turn his world upside down.

Together with a facetious shapeshifting animal spirit guide, Jeremiah and Isla discover that she is
part of an ancient bloodline bred to protect the gateways between the human world and the spirit
world, to keep evil demons from destroying them. They must find the key to defeating Alastore,
the demon king, and closing the gate before Samhain, when the veil between the worlds is lifted.
Alastore does everything in his power to eliminate them but, unbeknownst to all of them, Isla is
the only one with the ability to stop him for good.

Date Published:

In light the sacrifices she has made for him, Ryan can hardly deny her, but then something happens to completely change the course of their future. Will Julia choose the chance of a lifetime or the love of her life?

This is a story filled with the powerful and passionate connection we all dream of...a love so transcending, that even if the mind can't remember, it's impossible for the heart to forget.

My Rating:

My Review:
We get the story of two best friends who have secretly loved each other for so long while being too afraid to act on it.

I think that the intimacy of this book was on a whole other level than most books out there. I'm not just talking about the love scenes (which are more in depth than most romances, so warning), I'm talking about the emotional intimacy that these two characters shared for each other. It was undeniable and you could imagine being one of their friends and being so incredibly uncomfortable with the tension they must give off when they are around each other.  I can see how it could come off a little cheesy if it was another couple, but for me I really believed it!

These characters are bouncing through so much time in one book, that at times I found it hard to connect as much with their feelings. Jumping that much time span is just hard to do when reading for me.

While I don't feel like I was missing a part of the story, I would like for there to be a prequel to this! I think the beginning of their friendship and a look into when they first fell in love with each other would be amazing to read!

This book was a complete shock to me, I really need to know what happens NOW!

EXCERPT

The one topic we avoided was our feelings for each other.  It hung over us like an unspoken storm, but I was enjoying the day and didn't want to ruin it by forcing the topic, even though I ached to tell her I was in love with her.
Our time together made it clear that I could not contemplate the future without her in it.  The most immediate future consisted of her getting on a plane and flying away from me.
I gave up trying to sleep and pushed out of bed. I went into the hallway and stopped to listen for signs of Julia sleeping.
I heard her soft voice calling out.  "Ryan? Is that you?"
I walked the short distance into the living room. I stopped in front of where she sat and took in her shorts and t-shirt, her wild bed hair and the sparkling eyes looking up at me.
"Yeah.  I can't sleep."
She smiled.  "Well at least it's not your hormones this time."
"Isn't it?" I asked softly as I touched a finger to her chin.
"Maybe it wasn't such a good idea for me to come here."
"Yes, it was..." I said quietly, took her hand and pulled her up from the couch and down the hall, back to my room.
"Ryan...I.." she whispered as I took her in my room and shut the door behind us and I could feel her tremble beside me.
Still holding her hand, the mattress gave beneath my weight and I pulled her down beside me.  She sat, cross legged facing me and I took both of her hands in one of mine, cupping her cheek with the other.  She felt so soft...
"Julia...these last four years..." I began to speak but she pulled one hand from mine and pressed two fingers to my lips.
"Don't say something you'll regret, Ryan.  I'm...scared.  So scared of losing your friendship."
I sucked in my breath.  "I'm scared of losing more than your friendship, Julia."
"I don't understand..."
"Will you listen without stopping me? Take the risk of hearing what I have to say." I whispered impatiently and rubbed my hand up and down her arm.
"Okay," she said quietly.
"I'm scared of not having what we're supposed to have if we don't take the risk. These last four years have meant so much.  Knowing you and having you near me has literally changed the course of my life. You're my very best friend but... I feel so much closer to you than that. This thing with us... I can't shake it.”
She nodded, almost imperceptibly and looked down at her lap. "I know.  Me, too."
I felt a little ray of hope surge within my chest and my heart sped up.  This is Julia, I reminded myself.  She knew me better than anyone else so I should just say what I needed to say.
"Since the day we met, I've been fascinated by you, honey.  It's getting harder and harder to be around you and try to deny my feelings."
"Are you trying to say you're attracted to me, Ryan?  Because...I'm attracted to you, too. On many levels." She dropped her eyes to our hands again.
"In the club, the night I got my acceptance letter, I wanted to kiss you.  Holding you drove me crazy, but, it was like we talked about then.  I'm not willing to lose your friendship."
"If we cross that line, then what?  Will we feel weird with each other or lose...this?  Will it make being apart even worse?"
"Can it get any worse?" I asked quietly as my fingers threaded through hers.
"I don't have that answer, but it's something I've asked myself," she whispered.
"What I do know, is that I'm not capable of fighting it anymore, and that no matter what happens, I will always want you in my life." I searched her face as uncertainty flashed across her beautiful features.
"Ryan, do you promise?  Promise me," she begged as she leaned her forehead on mine.  Her breath rushed over my face and I could literally taste how sweet she would be in her scent.
"I promise." I lowered my mouth and ghosted it over hers.  My heart was thumping in my chest so fast I thought it would explode. This was the moment I'd waited for, for over three and a half years.
Her tongue came out to lick my upper lip and my breath left me in a rush, my body tightening in response.
I held her head with gentle hands as my mouth finally settled over hers.  Our open mouths were soft and searching.  It felt new and exciting, but also so right. Our lips knew exactly how to mirror each other and move in perfect unison.  She sucked on my upper lip and then I sucked on her lower one.  I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.
"Julia, my God," I groaned against her mouth as I gathered her close to me and lay her down on the bed. I moved over her and kissed her again and again.  The nearness of her, what I'd been dreaming of for so long was finally within reach, but I wanted to take it slow, to savor every touch. "Kissing you is every bit as incredible as I've imagined it would be."
Her arms moved around my shoulders and into my hair as she pulled me closer.  Knowing she wanted me, made me insane.  I could feel the urgency in her body, as she surged against me, and I parted her legs with one of mine. This was a fantasy that I'd had a million times, and it was finally being fulfilled.
She felt so good, her body molding perfectly to mine. I ground my hardness against her and she moaned against my mouth.  "Ryan, uhh..."
“Uhhh, say it again," I begged against her mouth.
"Ryan..." she gasped before my mouth devoured hers again and again, and the friction of our bodies making us both breathless.  I cupped her breast and my body swelled even more as I teased the peak until it strained in my hand.  I had to taste her, and urgently pushed her shirt up to expose her bare breasts. She was perfect. Round and firm with erect pink nipples.
"You're so beautiful.  I can't tell you how long I've wanted this."  I groaned as I dragged my open mouth from hers, down over her neck and chest until it finally closed over one of her luscious nipples.  Her back arched toward me and her hands wound in my hair as I pulled it into my mouth, suckling and flicking it with my tongue.  I thrust against her hip, seeking the contact that I so desperately needed.
I had her writhing beneath me and desire for her drove me insane.
I moaned softly as her nipple popped from between my lips and I brushed her hair back off of her face.  "Do you want me to stop?  I don't want to do anything you don't want, baby."
She searched my face and reached up to flutter her finger tips across my jaw.  "Ryan, I...I want you, but I'm scared of what will happen to us...later."
I kissed her nose and then her eyelids and cheeks before moving back to her mouth to tease it back into another deep kiss.  I loved how she responded to me.  It felt like she couldn't help herself and it was the sexiest thing I'd ever experienced.
Hearing her say she wanted me turned me on, beyond comprehension.
"I know; me too...but you feel so good, we fit so perfectly...I can feel your heart beating against mine. I can tell how amazing we'll be together."
Her hands moved up my chest and one of mine moved down between her legs never taking my eyes from her face.  Her mouth fell open and her eyes closed as my hand rubbed her over her clothes.  "God, Julia, you're so hot, you drive me crazy." Her body arched against my hand and my dick literally ached as it twitched against her hip.  "I've wanted you, to touch you like this since the day we met."
"Why didn't you, then?" she moaned before she raised her head toward mine, clearly seeking my kiss.  I was only too willing to oblige her as my mouth took hers again in a series of hot, wet kisses, our tongues laving and playing with each other.
Yes, why the fuck didn't I?

My Rating: 4.5 *'s

My Review:
Well, to start with, it is a BEAUTIFUL cover!

I am a huge fan of the Upper YA category. I guess you would say college age. Not necessarily in college but of age to be.

Kate has been through a lot in her life. She suffers a coma and wakes up having had a vision of missing child. She is thrust into the spotlight and loses everything. She feels the need to seclude herself and ignore her visions.

Jared is a detective who has a personal connection to a missing child. He will do whatever it takes to find his girlfriends little sister, even digging up old stories and information on a local girl who helped police find a missing child.

Kate is VERY reluctant to help Jared. For one, she is fighting a huge attraction to him, but hello he has a girlfriend. For two, she does not want to be in the media again after what happened last time. After making a deal they begin working together. As more and more is uncovered on the case, the closer they are becoming. They can't fight there attraction, but then there is Jared's girlfriend to consider.

I loved the way the attraction between Kate and Jared progressed. The case seemed real and the visions were well written and intense. This was just an overall great story! Maybe not your average YA Paranormal, but definitely something to take a chance on. A breathe of fresh air!

EXCERPT

Jared picks up Kate when she becomes stranded after a disastrous date:

Kate shifted in her seat and wondered how much she should confess about her night with Sebastian. Her inebriated tongue may end up revealing too much to Jared and she could find herself admitting how she couldn’t stand to kiss Sebastian because she was falling for him.
Jared seemed to speculate her discomfort could be over some sort of impropriety on Sebastian’s part. She saw his muscles tense as he said, “Kate, please tell me I don’t have to turn this car around and murder this Sebastian kid.”
She shook her head. “No, it was fine. I guess we were kind of on a date. I just wasn’t comfortable with how much he had to drink and where he wanted to take things.” She gave him a dazzling smile before continuing with her explanation. “See, you saved me in more ways than one tonight. My mother is the queen of thank you notes. So, don’t be surprised to receive one from her that displays her appreciation for keeping her daughter’s body and chastity safeguarded.”
He gave her a long look and she began to guess at how terrible she appeared. She hadn’t checked out a mirror in a long time and Sebastian’s moves on her probably made her resemble someone who recently had a roll in the hay.
“I should get you home,” he said at last. He was pulled out of his reverie and began to drive out of the parking lot.
She sank back into the leather seat and relaxed into the moment. Riding in his personal car in the middle of the night seemed to heighten the intimacy she felt developing between them. She still felt a buzz from the alcohol and his closeness was doing strange things to her. Something was nagging at her and she questioned whether she should disclose anything to him. Her tongue felt loose and she allowed the words to spill out of her mouth. After letting out an exaggerated sigh, she whispered, “I had a vision about you.”
It was silent for a long moment. His voice didn’t reveal much as he inquired, “You did?”
“It was your first day of kindergarten. You were dressed in Transformers stuff practically head to toe. You were calling yourself Optimus Prime.” She giggled loudly as she visualized Jared as a punk kindergartener.
His silence provoked her to go on and she shut her eyes to recall the vision. “I saw your mother and she was…” she trailed off before saying, “beautiful. Like amazingly so—with not one single flaw. You look like her, you know? Your father was there too and he was snapping pictures of you and her. You were nervous about school and she got down on her knees and told you to not worry. Just close your eyes and she would be there holding your hand.”
Finally opening her eyes, she shifted to face him. “It felt like she sensed that she would die young. Jared, she wanted you to remember she’d always be there for you.”
Kate swallowed hard when she saw how upset Jared looked. His features were tight and the dashboard illuminated moisture in his eyes. “Jared, I’m sorry…” she started, but her sentiment trailed off when he pulled the car over to the side of the road suddenly. Looking around, she realized they were at the end of her street.
He jumped out of the car and placed his hands behind his head. She watched him pace in front of the hood of the BMW for a minute before she slowly exited the vehicle. Approaching him cautiously, Kate asked softly, “Jared? What’s wrong?”
He produced a half laugh and half sobbing sound. “I don’t know, Kate, everything’s wrong. I mean, what are you doing here?”
“What do you mean?” she asked leaning against the hood.
Jared rarely seemed to lose his cool and it made her apprehensive about how he could be feeling. Was he agitated because of the vision? Or was he feeling something for her and he didn’t know how to deal with it?
“I like you, I do, but maybe we’ve been spending too much time together. It’s probably not a good idea for us to be as close as we’re becoming,” Jared said without meeting her eyes.
“I’m sorry I told you about the vision,” she apologized. As she positioned her body closer to him, she raised her voice in agitation. “I warned you this would happen. You’re obviously freaked out that I saw such a cherished memory of your mother. I would’ve never gone into your head if I could’ve stopped it! My visions are usually horrible, I only wanted to share with you that you gave me one of the best ones I ever had.”
“Kate, it’s not about your vision. It’s freaking incredible that you were able to see my parents as if they were still alive. I thought it would be fine for us to be friends, but…”
“But you know I want you?” she asked in her most seductive voice. The way he was protesting made her confident that he was finding it as impossible as she was to fight off their attraction. Putting her hands on her hips and sticking out her chest, she was hoping her sudden loss of inhibitions would pay off with a kiss from him.
Jared stood in front of her and grabbed her by the shoulders. His eyelids were lowered and he moistened his lips. The pull was undeniable and it felt completely natural to close her eyes and move to his mouth for a kiss.
Suddenly, his grip tightened and he said in a husky voice, “Kate, no.”
